My first impressions of Sailor Moon Crystal

2 days ago, we finally got to watch the very first episode of the highly anticipated new Sailor Moon reboot: ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal‘
..AND I LOVED IT!! IT WAS FREAKIN AMAZINNNNGG!!! :D :D :D
I basically spent the entire weekend re-watching the episode over and over~ and listening to the new theme song ‘Moon Pride‘ by Momoiro Clover Z on loop. It’s no surprise why it’s been stuck in my head ever since. But hey, I don’t mind one bit! :D
When I first saw the teaser trailer, I had some mixed feelings. I liked it, but it also seemed a bit low budget and it worried me. I tried my best to remain optimistic. You never know until you’ve seen the real deal, right?
So July 5th was drawing near…we’d already spent months counting down to this date. However, an exclusive event in Japan was announced for June 30th for Usagi’s Birthday, with an advanced screening of the first episode. This meant that there were going to be people who would see it before everyone else. I knew the chances of leaked footages and visuals were highly likely. I really dislike spoilers, especially for something I care so much about. It was only 5 days away… There was no way I’d let others ruin it for me. I decided to avoid social media and all Sailor Moon related websites altogether. I had unsubscribed myself from all Sailor Moon pages from Facebook so nothing would come up on my news feed. It was a bit hard at first (always tempted to tweet!), but it helped a lot that I was really busy with work which took my mind off it. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT! :D NO REGRETS!
I was so nervous staring at the countdown timer on Crunchyroll… my heart was racing! When the opening credits started playing, I started screaming with joy. I had this massive smile on my face the entire time. It basically blew my mind. OMG THE FEELS T^T
I love this sequence so much :3 It has such a beautiful vibe to it..
I can’t wait to see the other senshi attacks! The opening shot with Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus attacking was heaps impressive!
Yeah, who needs men’s protection when there’s girls who can kick ass? ;D Really loving Tuxedo Kamen’s new look ^^

ahahaah Tuxedo Kamen is hot :3 Could probably do without the overdose of glitter and bubbles though XD Really excited and looking forward to seeing more of him (without the roses! XD)
All in all, I’m super excited to see the rest of the arc! The new art style does take some time getting used to, but I’m going to embrace it with open arms. The first episode was pretty similar to the other incarnations (manga, 90s anime and PGSM)~ but I’m pretty sure there’s plenty of surprises to come!
Was i the only one who got the chills (the good ones) and cried when usagi was uncertain who she was, then the Moon sorta gave her courage and BAM close up to the smirk, then she delivers her iconic speech?

I actually didn’t expect much after seeing the trailor because it didn’t look THAT good..boy was I wrong.
Can’t wait to watch the rest of the arc, and oh my goodness, Tuxedo-Kamen!! He’s so handsomeeeee!!! *SQUEEEEEL*
Yeah, the trailer didn’t do justice to the anime at all… but in a way I’m also glad! I’m glad that they kept so much goodness hidden away so when the time came to actually see it, it exceeded our expectations :D
I love the art it’s so beautiful,
My boyfriend who is not in to cartoon said that they did a amazing job of the colors and look all most real.
He said that it’s very detailed.
There were some people who REALLY didn’t like the animation style. While I can see where they’re coming from, I honestly didn’t think it was that bad. I especially like how it looked more natural than most modern anime, with less CGI and crap.
And let’s not forget how that they really did stay truer to the manga character’s personalities. All in all, I liked it!
Totally agree!! I heard lots of complaints about the amount of CGI-scenes. But aside from the transformation and the short part in the opening, CGI was almost not included. So compared to other modern animes …this was nothing!! And even the transformation was a wonderful tribute to the 90’s anime. I love it!

The animation does seem a bit strange at times and a little wonky, but I’m letting that slide. The most important thing for me is that it’s ENJOYABLE. Good plot and characterisation is what I’m hoping most for :) The new colour scheme and overall feel is very pretty!
I know some people didn’t like Moon Pride or the CG transformation, but I DIDN’T CARE!! I love it all! I’ve seen it 5 times already and will probably watch it every day until episode 2 comes out!
It was freaking amazing!! I loved how even the title of the first episode remained the same as the first manga-chapter.
I’m just wondering if the 26 episodes really are just dealing with the Dark Kingdom Arc. I mean.. if they keep the pace (1 episode = 1 chapter) they could even include the Black Moon Clan, for in the new Manga version the 26st chapter concludes the Black Moon Arc.
Was it officially confirmed, that Sailor Moon Crystal is really, really merely about the Dark Kingdom?? No hope, that there could be more? ;) I wish they would do the whole Manga to see my beloved Sailor Saturn again <3

Yeah, pretty sure Sailor Moon Crystal will only cover the Dark Kingdom arc. 26 episodes is already a lot shorter than the original 90s anime~ and I personally hope Sailor Moon Crystal will use the “extra” episodes to give the characters good development and backstory. I feel that it’s a bit lacking in that area of the manga.
Who knows though… if Sailor Moon Crystal does well, there may be more in the future covering the later arcs!! :D
The only thing i am not crazy about is the 3D in the transformation BUT i let it slide due to the rest is aweeeeeeesome!
I Lived the entire thing it is so elegant and cute at the same time the music and transformation is amazing

thought it was great, loved the improved graphics. the only annoying thing was the 3D effect added in the transformation, didn’t like that they changed the name of usagi’s tiara move and tuxedo mask looks a bit over glamourized. other than that I really look forward to more episodes
Sacha, they didn’t change her attack name… It’s based on the manga, if you’d read it, you’d see. Tuxedo Mask is supposed to be glamorous, he’s a prince. It’s almost exactly like the manga, as it should be. Naomi Takeuchi is totally in charge with this anime, and I fully trust the creator. X3
Tuxedo Mask/ Mamoru is my favorite improvement so far. He looks amazing!
Everything is lovely and magical. The 3-d transformation sequence add all sorts of awesome movements and angles. Lovely, just simply lovely!!!
We are all entitled to our opinons. Sorry not everyone liked it. I however really enjoyed it. I need to watch it again when my 1 yr old is sleeping. I had a hard time watching both at the same time. Hehe. I’ll always love Sailor Moon no matter what incarnation it comes in.
Calm down… I loved the remake. It definitely felt like a nostalgia bomb. I just see it as another great Sailor Moon series. I don’t think Naoko expected to only had one anime of Sailor Moon. It was gorgeous, I love Moon Pride, and Usagi and the other characters look so gorgeous. The littlest updated features stand out do much. Even Ikuko Tsukino looked great to me. I love the anime. Can’t wait for more.
I loved it! I was SOOOO worried when I saw the trailer because yes, it did seem low budget. But I was pleasantly surprised. I love Usagi’s personality in this, much closer to the manga. Tuxedo Kamen is soooooo cute. So happy the roses and cheap speeches are gone. :3

I loved it I read the manga all the way up to the dead moon circus. They where right on with it. It was so awesome.
Love 99% of the series so far.
HATE the CGI transformation.
