Cardcaptor Sakura Movie – The Sealed Card DVD review

Dear Chibi,

Over 2 months, Hubby and I finished all 70 episodes from the Cardcaptor Sakura DVD Collection. I found it thoroughly enjoyable, even though at times it can feel a bit repetitive (The Clow Cards all start to feel the same after a while). There are also quite a few filler episodes which could easily be cut out, but every little interaction between Sakura and Syaoran make it worthwhile for me :3 THEY ARE JUST SO ADORABLE I DON’T CARE THAT THEY’RE 10 :’D

The final movie “The Sealed Card” is the ultimate finale to the Cardcaptor Sakura anime. It takes place 4 months after the end of episode 70 and it heavily focuses on this pairing. This is a brilliant movie for all Cardcaptor Sakura fans, but if you want Sakura and Syaoran to get together, you will love this movie!

(Poor Hubby, he was rooting for Meilin D:)

Cardcaptor Sakura The Sealed Card

“Sakura Kinomoto has come a long way since first being chosen to be a cardcaptor. She’s captured all the cards, made new friends and gained some insight into her own heart. Now, she faces her ultimate challenge, finding the strength to confess her feelings to her true love. While struggling with her heart, a mysterious force has begun stealing her cards and threatens to take away what she truly cherishes. Can Sakura find the inner strength she needs to take on this final challenge?”

This movie captures the essence of what makes Cardcaptor Sakura a great series to watch. Several characters also make cameo appearances. It starts off light-hearted, has plenty of humour and romance, but really starts to pick up in intensity and seriousness as the plot thickens. I think they did a really good job with the pacing, and the lead up to the climax. The actions scenes were glorious~ but I love Syaoran more. ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, I’ll stop ;D

So what didn’t I like about the movie? Not much… maybe they went a bit overboard with the character’s blushing? Is that even a legit complaint? :P

Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2 - The Sealed Card

Pretty cover art for the DVD case. Sakura and Syaoran in matching costumes? YES PLEASE!

I really liked the O-Card slipcase they had for the first movie, and wish they did the same for this release. It would definitely give it an extra ‘omph’!

The special features include an animated short titled “Leave It To Kero“, starring Kero as the main character alongside the ever adorable Suppi! The two fight over the last takoyaki and go on a pretty wild adventure. Super cute and funny. Suppi really deserves more screen time!

The DVD also comes with trailers of other Madman titles. I think a high-res image gallery featuring movie exclusive artworks would have been a nice addition too.

The disc is pretty and simple- it has a similar design to the series’ DVD collection. The first movie included a little movie guide. This literally had one piece of paper with some characters printed on it. It feels a bit random, but hey it’s a bonus, right?

The back of the character sheet, featuring Meilin, Tomoyo and The Nothing.

All in all, a very nice DVD release by Madman. So happy its finally available in Australia! If you’re interested in owning a copy, you can find it here. This review copy has been kindly provided by Madman.

This year also marks Cardcaptor Sakura’s 20th Anniversary!! They are currently publishing a new manga series (sequel), and a new anime project is in the works :O! SO EXCITED!!

Yesss!! I love how caring and attentive he is towards her. All those little moments <3

      • Jacky says:

How is he caring and attentive? he is socially awkward and has nothing to say except for explaining how things work.

On the other hand, I think Mei Lin is more caring and attentive ^^
