Japan Trip 2012~ Part 1

1st May 2012

Dear Chibi,

After a month, I’m finally back from my first overseas trip with Jacky :D Although we went to both Japan and Hong Kong, this blog entry will be focused on Japan. There’s so much I want to say, but I’ll try to keep this short and not bore you to tears ;) I’m going to put down my general thoughts on Japan and reflect on the highlights of the trip as well as other quirky bits :D

I’ve actually been to Japan four years ago with my family on a one week tour. I blogged about it here and here. I had fallen in love with this place, but I knew what I saw was only a very small part of the country.

This time was pretty full on. Jacky and I explored Japan for three weeks on our own, with Jacky doing all the research and planning. I didn’t have to do anything XD Everything went incredibly smoothly for us, even though we’re in a foreign country with barely any Japanese! The transport system in Japan is also insanely complex with so many different lines, subways, train lines, Shinkansen lines.. but we managed :D Again, I didn’t really do anything.. I just followed Jacky who did all the work getting us to places :D yay.

Shibuya, Yoyogi, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku

I love Shibuya :D! It’s such a beautiful, vibrant and lively city! Everyone is really friendly and when we had some trouble finding our way around, passersby were more than willing to help :)

View outside Shibuya Station

Writing wishes @ Meiji Shrine
Meiji Shrine (which is next to Yoyogi Park) is the first shrine we visited and I really enjoyed it for its peacefulness. Other shrines, temples and castles we visit later on are packed with tourists, which lacks that intimate feel.

Shopping @Harajuku
I loved Harajuku, it’s a great place for girls shopping! Not much here for boys though, unless you just want to look at pretty girls ;) If you look around, most Japanese people look good, and it’s no big surprise because self image seems like a huge deal over here. Most people from little kids to old grannys really dress themselves up. Heavy make-up, fake eye-lashes, lots of accessories, mini-skirts and heels were a very common sight amongst girls in Japan. Or maybe they’re just fashionable. That could be another reason. XD

What I’ve also noticed is that there only seems be to “M” size clothing, no S, or L …  Is this because everyone here wears medium size? XD

Big Echo Karaoke (Shinjuku) “Where everybady is happy” :D lol
It started pouring while we were just outside Big Echo Karaoke, so we decided to check it and see how it compares to Sydney ^^ It was quite nice inside. I LOVE how everything is pink in Japan XD It gives everything such a cutesy feel… I haven’t been to any other country which embraces this colour this much :)

The song selection system was pretty good. I was so surprised to find Chinese songs in here (even ‘pian ai‘ from Chinese Paladin 3!), and what amused me most was the Japanese characters on top of the lyrics. Japanese people actually sing Cantonese? XD

Emily’s 24th Korean Bday

21st July 2011

Dear Chibi,

Ahh..it’s been so long since I’ve last written! I haven’t quite been in the mood to jot things down and other things in life has taken my attention away. Nevertheless, I am here to post a few pics up from Emily’s birthday which occurred over the last weekend :D yaaay.

The theme for her birthday was “Glasses” though it wasn’t until after the evening did I realise it had a Korean theme! Korean karaoke..Korean dinner.. I should’ve known 8D Unfortunately, Jacky was down with the flu and couldn’t attend..but he was there in spirit (lying in bed with his dorky glasses, lol)

Emily looks so Korean in this photo ^-^v So cute!

haha, these black frames look similar to my real glasses ^^;

Chibi’s 24th Birthday

22nd May 2011

Dear Chibi,

Yesterday Kaz and I turned 24, and to celebrate we continued on with our tradition!

Number 24!! (In case it wasn’t obvious enough in the pic above XD) We wanted to take this against the same brick wall as the previous years, but the wall isn’t really there anymore.

Happy birthday dear sis :D~

Karaoke + Darling Harbour Fireworks

14th December 2010

Dear Chibi,

Oh it’s December! The festive season is here..and why hello there summer 8D

On Saturday I met up with the uni guys for some Karaoke at K-mix for 3 hours. It’s an old favourite of mine as it was one of the first few Karaoke places I’ve been to (I’m sure the first was at Big Echo) It was cheap, $10 for 3 hours + a drink so it was usually my preference when going to K. I’m not sure how I feel about it now though, seeing as I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be. A few months ago, a lot of the songs were removed from the database and I find the Chinese song selection to be pretty limiting.  It was always a bit dodgy with the English songs (yes, they’re mostly outdated) but I was more forgiving since it is an Asian Karaoke place.. now there’s just no excuses :p I still haven’t found my ideal karaoke place yet. Big Echo is slightly different, yet pretty similar since it’s run by the same company (though the song selection isn’t identical); K World doesn’t have many Asian songs and isn’t as cheap; CEO Karaoke is a nice place but slightly on the pricey side, and Sydney Karaoke is cheap but mainly has Korean/Japanese songs and no Chinese songs at all- the seats are also pretty uncomfortable. Oh the dilemmas, but enough of that for now XD

Everyone turned up for K apart from Marcus and MZ who met up with us afterward (since they were oh-so-busy with other plans). Emily and Floz went hunting for some lunch and arrived an hour later, Somps and her new bf Dong got a bit lost finding this little basement, so….who turned up on time? Burpy, Jacky and I! Well, Ray was pretty on time too so well done 8D (Yes,  I’m writing an attendance report card and it’s staying here FOREVER 8D)

Chibi’s 23rd Birthday

23rd May 2010

Kaz and I turned 23 :D!

A few years ago, we had decided we’ll do an imitation of the numbers every year to mark the occasion. So here it is! :D
I’m the 2 again and Kaz is struggling with the 3, heheheeh 8D

Do we still look alike?

Dear Chibi,

Yesterday I celebrated my 23rd  birthday with uni friends in the city. Jacky and I first went to pick up the pretty chocolate cake he bought me  from La Renaissance, before meeting up with the others at Chinatown. This year I wanted to try out CEO Karaoke since  it looked quite nice from pictures and I’ve heard some good things about it (Thanks Winni!) The place did look pretty cool and I thought the song selection was okay -except… where’s Yung Cho Yee?? Come on, how is it that you don’t have the most popular female HK artist in your database? lol.  However, it made up for it for having both Chinese Paladin 3 songs I wanted to sing, and it made me feel complete, yay XD

Pic spam!

30th August 2009

Dear Chibi,

Yesterday the cofa gang dressed up (well…tried to) as Asian FOBs for Emily’s 22nd Birthday! Most were confused by the term and everyone came according to their own interpretation of the theme ^_^ Good effort everyone! The results were…interesting…XD
