US Trip Part 2: Exploring San Francisco

8th December 2017 at 9:00 pm

Dear Chibi,

See Part 1: Los Angeles & Coastal Drive

In-N-Out to start the day!

We’ve been trying to have this since day 1, but somehow timing was just never quite right. At this point, I was still feeling nausea from Five Guys, so I tried to eat as light as I could (Which wasn’t possible from In-N-Out so I just…didn’t eat at all lol XD). According to Hubby, it was pretty amazing! Possibly higher than Five Guys on his list. What we didn’t realise was that they had a “Secret Menu” which allowed you to order some crazier stuff like “Animal Style Fries” & “3×3 burger”. Fear not- we had another round of In-N-Out later in the trip to make up for it 8D.

(Btw, why is every burger joint red? :P)

Just like that, our coastal drive was over. We finally arrived in San Francisco, home of my favourite Golden State Warriors :D

Union Square

We stayed at Chancellor Hotel on Union Square, and boy did that have the tiniest space ever. (hmm, actually New York may have been the winner )

At least the location was convenient :D

The great thing about coming here in November is that we also got to experience the Christmas vibe.

Oh hello there Durant : )

I really liked the vibe of San Fran; interesting but not too busy and hectic :)

We stopped by Mo’z Cafe for lunch (or should I say breakfast?)

I opt for a more healthy option. I don’t think my stomach could handle another soft drink for a while. Water it is ^^”

View from Macy’s building. There’s an outdoor ice-rink at the bottom.

We checked out a couple of the department stores including Westfields. I didn’t know they had them in America too!

Woah..there’s a Razor store o.o

We came across several stores that just sold socks. Are socks a huge thing in America? XD (Did you spot the Warriors socks?)

I was so excited by the amount of Warriors gear I found in shops. It’s awesome!

Chinatown

We wandered around and ended up in Chinatown. This Chinatown is HUGGGGE. Apparently it’s the largest one outside of Asia. The one in Sydney is just 2 blocks :P

Some cool mural we spotted along the maze of streets. Chinatown was pretty quiet and empty though.

Where are all the people? :O

I was craving for noodle soup so we settled for this Cantonese place that had..well, noodle soup 8D

Aww look at Hubby’s confused face! He doesn’t understand why we’re eating Chinese when we’re in America XD Poor Hubby. It’s okay, we can go back to burgers and fries once I’m feeling better ^^”

To end the night, Hubby bought one of those LED light slingshot elastic rocket copters and joined others flicking them to the sky. He was having so much fun beating everyone else XDDD

The next morning we had breakfast in a neat little cafe nearby (forgotten the name). I am still trying to fix my stomach ^^”

From there, we took a stroll to Japantown. The grounds were pretty hilly.

Japantown

Japantown is a nice clean area with a mix of Japanese and Korean restaurants and shops. Similar to Chinatown, it felt a bit empty~ Is this normal or are we just here at an odd time? XD

There was also a Daiso, but the range wasn’t the best and due to the Aussie dollar not being that great at the moment, it would cost us more to buy here than in Sydney ^^” We checked out a few shops which sold anime goods, but majority didn’t allow photos and most stocked bootlegged items ^_^”

Ain’t Japantown without Pikachu ;)

We grabbed an Uber ride and headed for Twin Peaks!

Twin Peaks

High up on this hill, we had stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the city and the bay. Everything looked so small from up here. It’s also very cold and windy!

Yup, still making sure that belly is growing 8D

Our first glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge :D

Whoopsie.

Just as we were about to leave, it started to rain. We grabbed sushi burritos for lunch and headed back to our hotel.

Delicious and healthy = win!

And so it was almost time for the highlight of my trip…!!! :DDD

Next: Part 3: NBA Warriors Game

Wow, sushi burrito sounds amazing :o

….what’s with the Asian ghost towns..

Yah it is!! Was so tasty and better than I had expected.

San Fran seems to have a tiny population, maybe that’s why..? I didn’t notice many Asians around either :O

Hello. I also visited San Francisco, Chinatown, and Japantown; but this was during the summer and the places were packed with people. I love the Chinatown in San Francisco better than the ones in New York. The weather in San Francisco is much more pleasant too. I’m hoping to go back and visit again. =)

Here is a blog post that details my experiences in Chinatowns: http://bit.ly/2b1kFz0

Hello again, Chibi. How silly of me. I just realized that you’re the creator of the MoonSticks Sailor Moon mini-comics. I love those and have been following you on Twitter! I’ve been a fan of Sailor Moon since the series first came out in the 90s.

When I visited Chinatown and Japantown in San Francisco, I was hoping to pick up a lot of Sailor Moon merchandise. Except for a bookstore and a toy shop that was closed on the day of my visit, I didn’t see any other Sailor Moon things for sale. T_T Were you looking for anything in particular during your stay?

    • Chibi says:

      Hi Lyra~
Thanks for your kind comments :D

I did spot a few Sailor Moon merch while I was in Japantown (None in Chinatown though). It was mostly the ‘Miracle Romance’ Eyeliners, some lip balms and Funko Pop Figures. Nothing you couldn’t get online though with the prices they were at ^_^”

In terms of Moonie goods, I was mostly trying to keep an eye out for Hot Topics and Game Stop.
