Sailor Moon Communicator Watches Gashapon Set Review

My bro pre-ordered these cute Sailor Moon Communicator Watches for my birthday back in April. The July release date got pushed back, so it took a while for these to arrive from Japan. I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of quality, since these are capsule toys after all. Would I be able to wear it? Can I use it as a real watch? Would it be too plastic and fragile? Seeing how much I loved the Sailor Moon mirror compacts, I had a feeling everything will be alright :D
I did have a bit of a scare though! When I first opened up Sailor Venus’s one, I realised the inside watch is fake. The interface was flat. WHAT WAS GOING ON?! I expected all of them to be watches, but it turns out ONLY Sailor Moon’s one is a winner.. which explains this diagram XD

You would need to get Sailor Moon’s watch from a machine in order to make them all functional watches :’D (I got mine as a complete set) The cover is interchangeable so you can wear whichever senshi colour you want, swapping with Sailor Moon’s one. The four inner senshi watches have a small compartment underneath. Sailor Uranus and Neptune’s are small key chains which also contains an empty compartment inside.
Despite the slightly misleading advertising (or my inability to read Japanese), I’m so happy with them. I love the size, it’s cute and small. The material is very similar to the mirror compacts and is pretty glossy (I would’ve preferred it matte). They always use matte for renders, but the actual product is almost always gloss. I have very thin wrists and these fit on me just fine with the smallest hole on the strap. These do seem to be prone to scratches, so I’ll probably just display them on my desk :) (After all that fuss over it not being a watch XD)

Sailor Moon’s one is a real watch. You just have to swap the covers with the other senshi if you want a working watch :)
Ah ok. I wasn’t lucky enough with the gashapon machines to get the sailor moon one. Got others tho
Ah okay! Yeah I don’t like how they’re different like that. They should all be real watches >.<
Just wanted to say thanks for the awesome review and for clarifying some of the points, particularly about the replaceable watch faces! Great pictures, too. =p The sale pictures always make the products look so awesome, but manage to hide all the details you really want to see.

I just got Mars’ from a real gashapon machine that a local store has in the states. I was surprised the watch didn’t work but figured it was a secret compartment thing.
I’m hoping to get more when I got back before they’re all taken. I think they were 5 bucks a pop which kind of hurts the bank roll but I’ll take one for the team. :)
