Honeymoon Part 1: Phuket & Koh Samui
20th December 2014 at 1:29 pm
Dear Chibi,
Last month, 2 days after our wedding, Hubby and I embarked on our 2 week honeymoon in Thailand! It’s now been 3 weeks since our return, so this blog entry is long overdue. It’s a little daunting when you have 2000 photos to go through~ but fear not! I have done the hard work and picked out a few to save you bandwidth :D
It was a very fun & relaxing honeymoon~ possibly the most relaxing trip I’ve had so far. A years worth of wedding planning, anxiety and stress was over… and it was all worth it :) Just thinking about the wedding day kept me smiling for the entire trip. It was truly an amazing feeling.
Phuket
We flew with Jetstar and arrived at Phuket in the late evening. We couldn’t see too much outside since the sunsets pretty early here. It was humid and sticky so we were glad when we arrived at our hotel. Yay for air-con!
Our massive room. Yes…don’t mind Chibi, she’s just checking Twitter or something ;P
We woke up the next morning to this awesome view. WOAH :D I had no idea we were surrounded by trees.
Beautiful swimming pool right below.
We had our breakfasts at the hotel. The food was simple, but delicious. HOW IS THIS STUFF SO TASTY?! Fruit juice smoothies left and right!
I could lie here all day… What is this paradise? XD
Crossing a small lake with a raft. Or you could just swim across the mud, I guess ;D
One of the many beaches in Thailand. They look great in pictures, but the sand and water don’t feel very nice. Australian beaches are still far superior.
A little market next to the beach. I tried a full body Coconut Oil Massage here and it was pretty comfortable. It made my skin smell and feel nice :D We both end up getting around 7-8 massages done during our Honeymoon. We can never have enough!
Out on the road.
“Sa-wat-dee Kah!” (Hello!) I am pretty hopeless when it comes to learning a new language. I kept hearing “Americaaaa!” XD Many people assumed we were Japanese. We heard a lot of “Konnichiwa!” and “Arigatou”! ^^”
Inside ‘Central Festival‘, which is basically like a Westfields shopping mall.
We end up going to the SFX Cinemas and watching “Interstellar” since the tickets were cheap! It cost around $5 a ticket. We chose to watch the English version of the film (instead of in Thai), so the theatre was pretty empty (score!) XD Before the film started, they played the Thai National Anthem (with an accompanying video), and the audience were required to stand to pay respect to their King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Googled juuuust for you ;D). The Thai people must really respect him. His portrait is displayed everywhere.
Oh, the film was pretty good too. It got a bit crazy towards the end but crazy is good, no? ;D
While at Central Festival, I end up having the BEST foot massage session I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was glorious. GLORIOUS I TELL YA. It was so comfortable and relaxing I actually fell asleep. The massages in Thailand are sooooo cheap. My foot massage end up costing around $9 for an hour. I’ve also tried a $4 one elsewhere but that was horrendous (I would pay $5 extra any day XD).
It was time to head to Koh Samui. Good bye Phuket and doggies :’) We enjoyed our time here.
We boarded this tiny propeller plane XD Thankfully it was a very short trip… otherwise it’s kinda creepy if you ask me ^^”
An hour or so later, we arrive at Koh Samui!! HOW DOES THIS EVEN LOOK LIKE AN AIRPORT?? THIS IS AMAZING. I AM READY FOR YOU KOH SAMUIIIIII *3*
Koh Samui
We stayed at Sandalwood Luxury Villas.. and luxurious it was. It sits high up on the hillside overlooking the beaches. This place is amazing. Great views, clean and super friendly staff :D
Waaah~ so romantic <3
Infinity pool…. *__*
What breath-taking view *__*
Breakfast at Sandalwood. FOOD IS SO FREAKIN AMAZING. Oh..those fried noodles… so soft..and juicy… (not pictured XD)
Exploring the markets & beaches in Koh Samui.
Hubby was super keen on trying street food, but I didn’t let him. I don’t want us to risk getting food poisoning!
This restaurant is amazing. The food is ridiculously cheap and so good…This plate of crab was only $6. Free WiFi is always a plus (which seems pretty common here) We never had to worry about not having internet.
Dinner at “Romantic Bamboo Restaurant”
We also went on a full day Jungle Safari Tour. Our tour guide was super crazy and hyperactive 8D He is apparently a ‘lady boy’.
Speaking of lady boys, I was always under the impression it meant male who had undergone a transformation (or in the process) to be a female. I learned that it can also refer to men who dress up as female too.
Our first stop, the Big Buddha Temple. We were provided with sarongs to cover our legs, since exposing skin was considered disrespectful.
“Grandfather” and “Grandmother” Rocks (Hin Ta and Hin Yai). They are basically rocks formed in the shape of the male and female body parts. They sure have some imagination… :P
Baby Elephant show
Monkey show with coconut demonstrations
The crocodile show. A man sticks his head inside a crocodile’s mouth, and uses his mouth to take out an 100 baht note he put inside… D: Surely this isn’t a magic trick? O_O
As part of the Safari Tour, we were also promised we’d get a free photo with a Tiger. The tour guide kept hyping up how amazing this Tiger was going to be.. and alas… we saw the “Tiger”:
Is that not a leopard….??! XDDDDD
We went high up into the mountains and checked out some waterfalls.
…and some more temples. We were promised an amazing panoramic view of the Island up here. Too bad it was way too foggy to see anything ^^”
The “Mummified Monk” (The one at the back with the sunnies..) at Wat Khunaram
Afterward, we climbed onto this 4WD and sat on the roof while they drove us into the mountains… It started off fun, but quickly turned into a terrifying experience! It was like being on a roller-coaster ride, except you only had a belt strapped around your waist and you could get seriously hurt. We were thrown left and right from the sheer bumpiness of the road and speed of the car. We had tree branches smacking into our faces o_o ow..
Thankfully we were okay!
We ended the big day with a nice Seafood dinner by the seaside :3
mmmMmmm… delish :3
you posted the awkward 90 degree pose ?!! My life is ruined now!! >D
I thought the blog entry wouldn’t be complete without it ;D
Looks amazing and so relaxing! Lol at the ‘tiger’ XD
haha thanks mle! :D
The tiger was such a fail XP
