Part 2: Azabu Juban Summer Night Festival & Sailor Moon Real Life Locations

29th August 2014 at 11:47 pm

Part 1: I flew to Japan for the Sailor Moon Musical (and it was awesome!)

Dear Chibi,

JapanTrip2014-34

On Sunday 24th August, Kaz and I dressed up in a Yukata to experience Japan’s Summer Festival for the first time!! And what better festival to check out, than the one in Azabu Juban where the story Sailor Moon is set? We managed to find these Yukata sets in Harajuku (Takeshita Dori) for a reasonable price. We’ve never worn one before, but luckily thanks to youtube, it wasn’t too difficult and was a lot of fun to wear! We met up with Brad in the afternoon at Hiroo Station, who then took us around to several Sailor Moon real life locations! YOU ARE AWESOME BRAD, THANK YOU :D!

Arisugawa No Miya Memorial Park

A lot of scenes from Sailor Moon took place in this park :D

We also passed the Tennis Courts which appear in the old Sailor Moon anime, where Nephrite makes his appearance.

JapanTrip2014-40

This is the ‘bus disappearance‘ intersection from Sailor Moon Crystal: Act 3. It’s located near the Hikawa Shrine.

Hikawa Shrine: Sailor Mars’s shrine used in the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal. I visited the Hikawa Shrine based on the old Sailor Moon anime here.

JapanTrip2014-43

The only difference is the word “ice” has been changed to “fire” to suit Rei 8D

And we’ve arrived at one of the Festival streets!

JapanTrip2014-60

Hey, I just realised I’m wearing similar colours to Usagi XD

The streets were crowded and very lively! Brad, Kaz and I decided to sit down at ‘Eat More Greens’ and wait for Cycyn and Luke to join us :)

JapanTrip2014-54

And here they are!! I met Luke briefly at the Sailor Moon Musical, and he turned out to be super fun and awesome. He even treated us all to dinner O_O DUDE YOU ARE TOO GENEROUS <3 Cycyn was wearing a cute men’s Yukata 8D

Osa-P Jewellery Store building featured in Sailor Moon Crystal: Act 1. (It’s not really a Jewellery store)

JapanTrip2014-64

You can also see the statue of the girl in the red dress here :3 It’s just opposite Osa-P :D

JapanTrip2014-65

And of course, Tokyo Tower!

The night wouldn’t be complete without good old Sailor Moon karaoke!! :D

We end up singing ‘Moon Pride’, ‘Moon Revenge’, ‘Moonlight Destiny’, ‘A Maiden’s Policy’, ‘Sailor Stars Song’, ‘Moon Bow’ among others.

JapanTrip2014-69

On our way back to the subway station, we came across another location. Usagi & Mamoru bump into each other here for the second time (Sailor Moon Crystal Act 2)!

Nice report :) it’s too bad that the Azabu park, where everyone was eating ice cream (pluto incl.) is under construction untill the next year.
It also seems that the new anime is really using updated locations of the city :) the Osa-P store is quite a new building :) and the old “Azabu-juban street” sign has been changed to the metro entrance ;(
Oh yeah Hikawa shrine doesn’t include ‘water’ that’s ‘ice’ :)
Will be looking forward for updates ^_^

      Thanks Phaeton :D
Yeah, Brad pointed out the arc way being knocked down… >.< I would've loved to see the 'Azabu-juban street' sign too~ that's easily recognizable and shown a lot in the anime. Oh, and whoops. Must have read wrong XD
